Rome
Acea celebrated its 115th anniversary with an event dedicated to water, the planet's most precious resource. The event, named "The future of water, a guarantee of development at the service of the country", took place in the Salone delle Fontane in the EUR district of Rome. The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella was in attendance, along with representatives from the government, institutions, business, and journalism.
During the event, the new Acea logo dedicated to the anniversary was unveiled, as well as the video-documentary ‘ACEA: 115 years by your side’ celebrating the anniversary through images and photographs that not only recount a piece of Italian history but also retrace the story of the company, which in over a century has become a leading industrial group, the leading water operator in Italy and second in Europe.

OSRAM Lamp
The OSRAM Lamp was one of the most iconic fixtures in Piazza dei Cinquecento, in the Castro Pretorio district, in front of Termini Station. Installed by Acea in 1960 for the Rome Olympics and produced by the German company OSRAM, it featured mercury vapour lamps, cutting-edge technology at the time. It was removed between 1982 and 1983.
Rome's Nasoni Fountains
The nasone is the typical public fountain found in the city of Rome, providing fresh water to residents and visitors. Its name comes from the shape of the spout, which resembles a large nose. The earliest versions were made of cast iron with three dragon-shaped spouts. Over the years, they were replaced by brass versions with a single, smooth-shaped spout.
Lamp post (1876)
Designed by Duilio Cambellotti in collaboration with the renowned architect Mariano Coppedè between 1876 and 1899, this lamp post was produced by the Pignone foundries in Florence at the considerable cost of 72,000 lire each, equivalent to about €350,000 today. These lamp posts were installed to beautify the historic center of Rome.
Fiat 600 Multipla
Produced between 1956 and 1960, this four-cylinder, 633 cc petrol vehicle was modified by Acea to allow maintenance of street lighting poles in the narrow streets of Rome.
Hydraulic Valve
To manually control the water flow in the pipelines serving the Prenestino, Centocelle, Alessandrino, Torrespaccata, Torre Maura, Torrenova, and Torre Angela neighbourhoods, the system used a metal wedge that moved vertically inside the oval body of the valve. It was operated by a gear reducer, which made it easier to fully open or close the valve.
"
Water, energy, and the environment have been the cornerstones of Acea's history. These elements have shaped the growth of an industrial group that, from the early 1900s to today, has continuously faced significant technological challenges with the goal of serving large areas and millions of citizens. Just like 115 years ago, the world is undergoing major changes, with artificial intelligence and robotics playing an increasingly important role in the management of services and infrastructure. We have chosen to focus this evening on water because we are convinced that, in the coming years, particularly in the face of ongoing climate change, water will not only be a social priority across Europe but a central issue tied to infrastructure growth.
