Value for the territory

We are committed to engaging and raising the awareness of people in the areas where we operate, not only to share the value generated with the communities, but also to amplify the positive impacts deriving from our businesses.

Our strategic “Value for the community” objective includes the initiatives and projects that contribute to developing the Group companies’ territories of operation, in terms of technological innovation, quality of services offered and available to the community, training and cultural growth, starting with the schools.

Our relationship with customers

In order to appropriately meet the expectations of our customers, on the one hand we continuously innovate our operations and enhance their impacts, which are measured using specific quality factors, and on the other we are committed to communicating in an effective, clear and transparent manner. Digital innovation has allowed us to significantly improve our customer care service, which is more and more imbued with the highest level of quality, timeliness and consistency in the resolution of problems, as demonstrated by recent customer satisfaction surveys.

The customer satisfaction surveys (“perceived quality”) are regularly distributed during the year with a view to generating frequent results that enable the Group companies to promptly intervene, insofar as necessary, on the provision of services and communication. In 2024, Acea was one of the first Italian listed companies to receive RINA Services Spa certification for the compliance of its processes with the ISO 10004 guidelines dedicated to the design, monitoring and measurement of customer satisfaction.

Innovation in the territory

The territory will derive significant value from the RomeFlex project, an innovative platform that enables management of electricity grid customers’ flexibility with a view to avoiding service disruptions. Moreover, in terms of services made available to the community, it is worth mentioning two initiatives of particular importance, which will also form the object of investments over the next few years.

Electric charging columns: we are utilising our know-how to promote a sustainable mobility culture via a smart technology that changes people’s lifestyle, also through the use of the Acea e-mobility app.

Water houses, as an evolution of the Roman fountains, the Nasoni. In addition to the distribution of still and sparkling drinking water, they are hi-tech hotspots, where people can recharge their tablets and smartphones and look up information of general interest using digital displays.

At the service of art and monuments

We handle the illumination of Rome’s monuments, placing a strong focus on energy efficiency and adopting solutions that allow us to combine artistic valorisation needs with attention to energy efficiency and the environment. For example, for the new lighting of the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano we enhanced the basilica’s main façade, side elevations, piazza, portico and loggia with 130 high-efficiency LED projectors, minimising the aesthetic impact of the projectors, energy consumption and light pollution.

In 2024, we constructed the new photovoltaic glass roof of the Armour’s Courtyard at the Vatican Museums with a view to generating renewable energy and at the same time enhancing the liveability of the areas below via thermal insulation and shading. Our project also provides for a roof over the Vignaccia warehouse in the Vatican Gardens using photovoltaic glass, providing an overall electricity output from the two installations of around 500 MWh per year.

Dialogue and collaboration

We handle the relationship with our stakeholders according to principles of integrity, transparency and impartiality. For the community, we organise frequent initiatives involving the schools, via water education projects, local authorities, consumer associations and environmental groups. These players represent the local needs and expectations, providing a fundamental contribution to the steering of our actions towards greater sustainability and allowing us to best respond to the requirements of the communities where we operate.

In particular, with regard to the water sector, we arrange regular meetings with the local authorities, for example during the Conference of Mayors, who are entrusted with decisions pertaining to the service’s direction, scheduling, organisation and control.

Insofar as concerns the energy grids, bearing in mind the growing importance of consumption electrification, we arrange opportunities for discussion with residents, universities and energy communities in order to share development plans and discuss future scenarios.

Acea and the Ministry of Education, together for water education

In continuity with Acea’s activities for students, we have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education and Merit to promote education in primary and lower secondary schools at national level regarding the correct use of water resources. The aim of the educational project is to provide training and information about the conservation and responsible use of water, also through specific teacher training sessions.

Our overseas commitment

Our 2024-2028 Sustainability Plan provides for objectives in support of the local communities in Honduras and Perù, where we serve a total of around 10 million users, via specific initiatives that bring important social benefits in very different economic scenarios compared to Europe.

In Perù, through Consorcio Agua Azul, which handles the treatment and purification of water in Lima, we are committed to creating value in the area through educational campaigns in schools, the distribution of school kits in poorer districts and health and hygiene training workshops at the premises of local communities. In Honduras, through Aguas de San Pedro, we manage the integrated water service for the town of San Pedro Sula, focusing our support on fire prevention, with the training of firefighting teams and installation of 30 new hydrants.
