We light up Christmas magic in Rome

Every year, the Acea Group’s Christmas lights on Via del Corso transform the heart of Rome into a unique and immersive experience.

This year, the tradition coincides with a special occasion: the opening of the twenty-fifth Holy Year.

The carpet of lights, stretching approximately 2 kilometers from Piazza Venezia to Piazza del Popolo, features 49 luminous representations of water drops, symbols of this precious and universal resource, alongside small globes representing the Jubilee, a symbol of renewal and hope.

Technology and passion in the service of the Eternal City

The Capital's Christmas lights are dedicated to the universal theme of peace.

In order to convey this message even more, Acea, on the occasion of the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Piazza del Popolo, took it upon itself to involve a Person from the Group, and his family, who suffered a great loss this year due to a traffic accident, in order to raise awareness about the issue of road victims among all citizens.

In addition, thanks to the collaboration between Areti, an Acea Group company, and Roma Capitalemore than 500 illuminated crosswalks (APLs) will be installed in the upcoming months, using state-of-the-art technologies that will improve the public lighting service near particularly relevant crosswalks, including in the peripheral areas of the Capital.

Inauguration of the Christmas lights

As per tradition, on December 8, the Christmas lights were inaugurated, and Rome’s Christmas tree in Piazza del Popolo was lit up in the presence of Roberto Gualtieri, Mayor of Rome, and Barbara Marinali, President of the Acea Group.

The fir, beautifully wrapped in strings of warm lights, served as backdrop for the performance by the Choral Singing School of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma

How Christmas lights are created

Created to illuminate the patronal festivals widespread in Southern Italy around the 16th century, over the decades Christmas lights became true works of art that took the name "Luci d'artista" (Artist’ Lights) for their visual appearance. The elements of the decorations are lights, colours, architecture and scenic appearance. Over the years, they have become so popular that even famous artists have been involved in their creation.
