Description and Goals

The "Doubling up of VIII Siphon – Valeria Casa – Galleria Ripoli Exit Section – Phase I" project is the first functional phase of the doubling up of the VIII Siphon (currently connected with the existing Marcio Aqueduct) with the aim of guaranteeing robustness, durability, and a suitable flexibility, inspectionability and maintainability of the system.

The intervention was divided into two functional phases, the first of which is dealt with in this project and involves the construction of two sections of pressurised steel pipelines lined with concrete jacket pipe, and the connection with the existing VIII Siphon which currently crosses the Tiburtina Valeria and the railway below, to then cross the Aniene River via a tube bridge and return below road level near Largo Saragat. This stretch allows water to be sourced from the Acqua Marcia aqueduct system with the aim of supplying the South-East quadrant of the city of Rome.
